Wish You Were Hear: Burger Boogaloo 2013, Day 2

The Zeros | Burger Boogaloo, Mosswood Park, Oakland

Oakland’s Mosswood Park is the kind of place where locals go to walk their dogs, let their kids run amok on the playground, kick a soccer ball around, play a game of tennis, film a low-budget music video, or lie in the sun with a good book. It hardly seems like it could handle a posse of rowdy garage/punk bands and the crowd that loves them, but the visionary folks at Total Trash Booking saw its potential and took a stab at putting together an East Bay outdoor music fest.

With the help of Burger Records, Marc and company did a tremendous job organizing the two-day Burger Boogaloo on July 6 and 7. I was only able to attend day two but was fully impressed by how pleasant it was to be there. The sun was out, the bands were pretty much on schedule (some were even early!), the food trucks had something for everyone, and the portapotties weren’t a total disaster. New York Night Train’s Soul Clap & Dance Off, with DJ Jonathan Toubin, was a highly entertaining intermission. If Burger Boogaloo happens at Mosswood Park again next year, count me in! In the meantime, here are some highlights from the day.
