Five on Friday: Sweet & Edible Menagerie

Cake with meringue mice, Jeonju, South Korea | Canon Digital Rebel XT, 40mm, 1/100 f4, ISO 200

Some creations are just too cute and/or extravagant to eat…

Shih tzu cake, Taipei, Taiwan | Canon 5D, 67mm, 1/40 f6.3, ISO 400

Crocodile bread, San Francisco, California | Canon 5D, 80mm, 1/40 f6.3, ISO 200

…while others elicit less guilt and can be gulped down by the dozen.

Hiyoko (the Japanese peep), Tokyo, Japan | Canon Digital Rebel XT, 40mm, 1/100 f4, ISO 200

Bunny wagashi, Tokyo, Japan | Canon Digital Rebel XT, 40mm, 1/40 f4, ISO 400

  1. I can’t stop returning to this one… and staring… a lot.
I also love that the Japanese peep is individually wrapped. In a plastic box, not just a pouch.

  2. re: japanese peep–seriously, right? have you had them? meh. but cute!
when i go back to taiwan, i’ll try to take as many zoomorphic foodstuffs as i can. there’s certainly no shortage! the dog birthday cake was just one of many in the window display, but i felt someone was gonna come out and yell at me at any moment so i just took one.
